Syria’s de facto leader Ahmed al-Sharaa has stated that the nation is weary from years of conflict and poses no threat to its neighboring countries or the West. In an interview in Damascus, Sharaa advocated for the lifting of sanctions against Syria, asserting that his organization, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), should no longer be classified as a terrorist group.
Sharaa played a pivotal role in leading HTS and other rebel factions during the recent offensive that resulted in the ousting of former President Bashar al-Assad’s regime less than two weeks ago.
