Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, officially signed the 2025 budget, aptly named ‘Building Your Future II,’ into law on Wednesday.
Initially proposed at ₦682.2 billion, the budget was increased by ₦10 billion after a comprehensive review by the state House of Assembly, bringing the total to ₦692.2 billion. Governor Radda first presented the proposal on November 25, 2024.
During the signing ceremony at the Government House in Katsina, Radda praised the legislature for its commitment to passing a budget aimed at propelling developmental initiatives in the year ahead. He also recognized the significant contributions from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies in formulating a pragmatic and effective financial strategy for the state.
“Our 2025 budget showcases our dedication to capital development,” Radda stated. He revealed that the recurrent expenditure now accounts for 22.8% of the total budget, a notable decrease from last year’s 28%, with capital projects now representing over 77% of the overall budget.
This shift illustrates the administration’s focus on enhancing infrastructure, education, and agriculture—key areas intended to boost self-reliance, improve living standards, and alleviate poverty among residents.
“The 2025 budget builds on our strong performance in 2024 and establishes a foundation for continued progress,” he added.
Nasir Daura, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, described the budget as a product of a meticulous legislative process. He disclosed that an additional ₦10 billion was identified during budget defense sessions with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, prompting the final appropriation increase.
Daura emphasized, “This thorough review process ensures the budget meets the genuine needs of our people. The revised total of ₦692.2 billion provides the essential framework for enhancing the living conditions of citizens and promoting development statewide.”
He further commended Governor Radda’s commitment to improving the welfare of Katsina residents and expressed optimism that the budget’s implementation would drive significant advancements in 2025, with a clear prioritization of education, agriculture, and other critical sectors, reaffirming the administration’s pledge to bolster economic and social infrastructure in the state.
