Severe flooding continues to impact six southern provinces, with local airports remaining open despite the situation on Tuesday.
According to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, heavy rainfall has led to extensive flooding in Chumphon, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Ranong, Surat Thani, and Trang provinces.
The floods have resulted in the tragic loss of eight lives, affecting approximately 161,605 households.
In Chumphon, floodwaters are receding in the Lamae, Lang Suan, Muang, Pathiu, Phato, Sawi, Tha Sae, and Thung Tako districts.
Nakhon Si Thammarat is experiencing ongoing flooding in several districts, including Bang Khan, Chalerm Prakiat, and Muang, though water levels are beginning to lower.
Flooding is also reported in Phatthalung’s Khuan Khanun, Khao Chaison, and surrounding districts, with signs of water levels dropping.
In Ranong, the Kra Buri, La-un, and Muang districts are affected, but floodwaters are abating.
Surat Thani faces flooding in multiple districts, including Koh Phangan and Koh Samui, with water levels on the rise.
In Trang, only the Ratsada district is currently facing flooding, yet water levels are starting to decline.
Air travel remains unaffected, as airports in Chumphon, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Ranong, and Surat Thani are operational. However, travelers are advised to plan ahead, allowing extra time due to flooded road delays.
In terms of healthcare, public health facilities have also been impacted, with six hospitals experiencing flooding across Chumphon, Nakhon Si Thammarat, and Surat Thani. Phra Phrom Hospital has been closed, prompting the transfer of patients and staff to nearby Thungsong Hospital. Fortunately, five other hospitals are still in operation.
