The Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service has taken decisive action by sealing the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) due to an outstanding tax liability amounting to N600 million.
In a statement following the early morning operation on Friday, the Executive Chairman of KADIRS, Jerry Adams, confirmed that this move was in line with a court order intended to enforce compliance regarding the substantial tax obligation owed to the state.
Adams detailed that the tax liability has accumulated from 2015 to 2022, a period during which reconciliations had taken place, resulting in KAEDCO’s agreement to fulfill a significant portion of the debt. However, he expressed frustration that the company has yet to honor its commitments since the liability was established last year.
“We are empowered by the law to seal and take control of their premises to guarantee compliance, which is precisely what we executed this morning,” Adams stated.
He urged businesses, individuals, and corporate organizations to prioritize voluntary tax compliance, highlighting its importance for the economic health of the state.
