Julien Baker, producer and multi-instrumentalist Calvin Lauber, Northern Irish folk artist Soak, and Alaskan singer-songwriter Quinn Christopherson have unveiled a captivating cover of the Belle and Sebastian classic “Get Me Away From Here, I’m Dying.” This fresh rendition has been recorded for the Red Hot Organization’s highly anticipated Transa compilation.
Calvin Lauber shared insights into the collaborative process behind the cover: “Julien Baker approached me with the idea of this cover, and we decided to involve Soak and Quinn Christopherson, both of whom are friends with whom we’ve shared the stage. Despite being spread across different parts of the country—Julien in L.A., myself in Nashville, Quinn in Alaska, and Soak in the UK—we managed to create the track remotely, exchanging ideas and sounds via email. Julien sent over her draft, and I added my touch with drums, guitar, and synths, utilizing everything at my disposal. We aimed for a sound that is both dynamic and expansive, drawing inspiration from ’80s new wave and bands like Interpol.”
The Transa compilation is set for release on November 22 and features a remarkable lineup, including Sade Adu, Lauren Auder, Beverly Glenn-Copeland, and many more.
