Alice Capsey has been called up to England’s T20 squad for the highly anticipated series in South Africa after her initial exclusion raised eyebrows. The talented 20-year-old replaces an injured player and will join the team on Monday.
The England squad is gearing up for an exciting tour, featuring three T20 matches and three ODIs, followed by a historic four-day Test, commencing on November 24 and extending to December 18.
Capsey’s recent performance has sparked discussions, as she hasn’t surpassed 25 runs in her last five T20 internationals. Her last outing resulted in a single run, contributing to England’s disappointing six-wicket loss against the West Indies, which eliminated the team from the World Cup.
England’s head coach has expressed concern over Capsey’s recent form, stating that she has been "trending in the wrong direction." He emphasized the importance of finding consistent performance going forward.
Despite her challenges, Capsey recently achieved her first five-wicket haul during the Women’s Big Bash League, showcasing her potential. She claimed 5-25 in just 3.5 overs, although she was dismissed for a golden duck in the same match.
The England T20 squad is scheduled to depart for South Africa on November 16, with the ODI and Test squads following on November 27. Notably, the upcoming Test match in Bloemfontein marks the first Women’s Test in South Africa since 2002.
