Officials in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, have uncovered hundreds of potentially fraudulent voter registration applications, raising concerns in the pivotal swing state.
The Lancaster County Board of Elections reported that “suspected fraudulent voter registration forms were dropped off at the Board of Elections Office in two batches near the submission deadline,” totaling approximately 2,500 applications under scrutiny.
Details remain unclear regarding how many of these submissions are believed to be fraudulent.
In their statement, the election board emphasized the security of county elections and asserted that identifying potential fraud demonstrates the effectiveness of existing systems. Lancaster County, known for its Republican-leaning demographic, has more than 360,000 registered voters.
The statement also mentioned that concerns were raised during routine review processes leading to alerts for law enforcement.
At a news conference, Lancaster County District Attorney Heather Adams remarked that multiple applications displayed similar handwriting and flagged unusual details such as incorrect addresses. Investigation into these matters is ongoing, with no comments on potential sources behind the suspicious forms.
Recent reports have highlighted issues with fraudulent signatures in paid canvassing activities. Additionally, the announcement followed troubling news from Bucks County regarding a misleading video on social media alleging ballot destruction by election workers. Furthermore, in Colorado’s Mesa County, authorities are investigating claims of voter fraud linked to approximately a dozen ballots.
