BANGKOK, Thailand – The upcoming 6th United Nations Responsible Business and Human Rights Forum for the Asia-Pacific region is set to take place from September 24 to 27, 2024, in Bangkok. This significant event, co-organized by multiple UN agencies, will delve into critical issues surrounding business responsibility and human rights.
This year’s theme, “The Remedy Blueprint: Bridging Gaps and Accelerating Access,” emphasizes innovative strategies for improving grievance mechanisms, ensuring they are effective and tailored to specific business contexts, while incorporating feedback from affected rights holders.
The forum aims to gather key stakeholders to identify necessary solutions for enhancing access to justice and effective remedy across Asia and the Pacific. Discussions will center on three core areas: Domestic remedy, Transnational remedy, and Complementary strategies that facilitate access to remedy.
The objectives of the forum include:
- Evaluating progress and identifying challenges in promoting access to remedy within the Asia-Pacific region;
- Clarifying the significance of international frameworks, local legislation, and sector-specific strategies in ensuring access to remedy;
- Encouraging innovation and fostering collaboration among stakeholders through dialogue and peer learning.
The forum will feature two key sessions organized by the ILO:
Additionally, the ILO will conduct a training session titled “Training on the UNGPs, the ILO MNE Declaration, and OECD Guidelines with a Focus on Access to Remedy” on September 24, 2024, from 14:30 to 16:00 ICT. This session will equip participants with in-depth knowledge about the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, the ILO MNE Declaration, and the OECD Guidelines, focusing specifically on access to remedy mechanisms.
A side event titled “Accelerating the Integration of Labour Rights in Management Education in Asia-Pacific” will also take place on September 24, 2024, from 16:30 to 17:30 ICT, which will encourage dialogue around improving labor rights in academic settings.
