Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, China, is set to host the 9th Asian Winter Games from February 7 to 14, 2025. This prestigious event marks Harbin’s second time as host, having previously done so in 1996, and is the third occasion that China welcomes the Asian Winter Games. The upcoming Games will showcase 64 medal events spanning six sports: biathlon, curling, ice hockey, skating, skiing, and ski mountaineering, with an estimated 1,275 athletes from 34 nations competing.
A record-breaking 35 athletes from Mongolia, supported by 28 coaches, will participate in the Games across seven categories in four sports, marking the largest delegation in their history.
Mongolia has a rich history of successful performances at the Asian Winter Games, including a bronze medal in the men’s cross-country ski relay at the 1990 Sapporo Games and another in alpine skiing freestyle at the 2007 Changchun Games. Additionally, the Mongolian bandy hockey team captured silver at the Astana-Almaty 2011 Games, alongside four bronze medals in ski orienteering.
The theme for the 9th Asian Winter Games, “Dream of Winter, Love among Asia,” highlights the shared enthusiasm for winter sports across the continent. This inspiring slogan was chosen from 3,518 submissions worldwide, illustrating the strong connection among Asian nations through sport.
