In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, authorities in Jammu district have arrested 300 individuals linked to 200 drug peddling cases and seized over 43 kg of heroin, valued at several hundred crores, in 2024, officials reported.
During this extensive anti-drug operation, police also attached 11 properties connected to drug smugglers, collectively valued at ₹4.69 crore.
As part of their strategy to combat drug-related crimes, a total of 200 cases were registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, culminating in the arrest of 300 suspects in the district over the past year, according to police sources.
Additionally, 83 vehicles associated with these drug offenses were confiscated.
Among the arrests, 153 First Information Reports (FIRs) were filed specifically for heroin smuggling, resulting in the apprehension of 246 individuals. Notably, 19 major drug traffickers were charged under the stringent Prevention of Illicit Traffic in NDPS Act, reflecting the department’s unwavering stance against habitual offenders.
Authorities confirmed the attachment of 11 immovable properties worth ₹4,69,91,369 and three vehicles worth ₹12,50,000 under the NDPS Act during 2024, emphasizing a crucial step in undermining the financial frameworks of drug syndicates.
Furthermore, police have taken down four major drug hotspots and are diligently working to dismantle additional locations with the cooperation of local administration and community members.
In addition to the seizures, authorities recovered a substantial amount of contraband and psychotropic substances, including 43.854 kg of heroin, showcasing the gravity of the narcotics trade in the region and affirming the police’s ongoing commitment to disrupt and eliminate the supply chain.
To aid in rehabilitating drug addicts, the Jammu city has initiated the functioning of its largest ‘Police Drug De-addiction, Rehabilitation and Mental Health Care Centre’ in Channi since March last year.
This comprehensive approach aims to effectively tackle the escalating drug crisis, demonstrating the Jammu Police’s proactive operations throughout 2024 to significantly mitigate narco-crimes within the district.
