In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Central Intelligence Unit of the Enforcement Bureau CID in Chennai apprehended four individuals allegedly involved in interstate ganja smuggling, seizing 200 kg of the illicit substance valued at approximately ₹20 lakh.
Acting on intelligence, the authorities intercepted a vehicle disguised as a banana transport near the Elavur check post in Tiruvallur district. Upon inspection, they discovered 10 parcels of ganja totaling 100 kg. A hidden compartment in the vehicle revealed an additional 10 parcels, bringing the total to 200 kg.
The enforcement team also confiscated the mini load carrier used for transporting the drugs, as well as a car registered in Andhra Pradesh that was part of the operation.
Among the arrested were three brothers—Raju, alias Mohanraj (32), Shanmuganathan, alias Prabu (31), and Balamurugan (36)—all originally from Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh, believed to have transported the ganja for sale in Tamil Nadu. The fourth suspect, Senthilnathan (28), from Maraimalainagar in Tamil Nadu, was identified as the driver of the escort vehicle.
The investigation is currently ongoing as authorities work to dismantle the drug trafficking network.
