In a significant development, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced that the state cabinet has accepted the Haryana Scheduled Caste Commission Report, implementing a 20% reservation in government jobs for Scheduled Castes. This decision was made public during a press conference held in Chandigarh on August 18, 2024.
During his address, Mr. Saini stated, “The cabinet has accepted the Haryana Scheduled Caste Commission Report. A 20% quota in government jobs will now be reserved for Scheduled Castes, with 10% of that specifically designated for the deprived Scheduled Castes.”
He confirmed that the new rule will take effect following the assembly elections, in accordance with the Election Commission of India’s code of conduct. This announcement follows the declaration of assembly election dates by the Chief Election Commissioner on August 16, 2024, with Haryana set to vote in a single-phase election on October 1 and counting to occur on October 4.
Furthermore, Mr. Saini emphasized the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) readiness for the upcoming elections, expressing confidence in forming the government for a third consecutive term in the state. “The BJP is prepared for the elections, and we are committed to forming the government in Haryana for the third time. Our efforts over the last decade have focused on the development of Haryana without any discrimination. I urge the public to participate actively in the upcoming elections,” he stated.
In addition, the Chief Minister announced the introduction of the Gambling Prevention Ordinance aimed at curbing gambling and betting activities in the state. This ordinance stipulates that those guilty of violations could face imprisonment of up to seven years or fines reaching ₹7 lakh.
Later, at a rally in Hansi, Mr. Saini reiterated his confidence in the BJP’s prospects, asserting, “Your support will help us secure a third term for the BJP. Our double-engine government has significantly transformed Hansi over the last decade.” He also accused the Congress party and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda of obstructing recruitment processes.
To conclude, Mr. Saini highlighted the government’s initiatives, stating that it has provided employment opportunities to underprivileged families without charge and secured lifelong jobs for 1.20 lakh youths through the Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam.
