Seventeen Bangladeshi nationals, including eight children, were repatriated on Saturday, September 28, 2024, after being apprehended in Assam for allegedly crossing into India illegally, as confirmed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
In a statement, Chief Minister Sarma emphasized the government’s firm position against illegal infiltration, noting, “The Assam Police successfully pushed back nine Bangladeshis and eight children across the border in the early hours today.”
Officials reported that approximately 100 individuals have been apprehended in Assam for illegal entry, largely due to ongoing unrest in Bangladesh, and have since been returned to their home country.
This proactive stance by Assam authorities highlights the state’s commitment to border security and managing the impact of regional disturbances.
