The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ekiti State Command, has apprehended 14 individuals for alleged economic-related offenses.
In a statement from the NSCDC State Commandant, it was revealed that the arrests took place in Ado Ekiti following a series of routine checks and operations carried out by specialized units including the Counter-Terrorism Unit, Intelligence and Investigation Unit, and the Financial Crime Unit.
The commandant indicated that these arrests stemmed from multiple complaints from business owners regarding unexplained financial discrepancies in their bank accounts, alongside reports of fraud from point-of-sale operators.
The suspects have been transferred to the Ilorin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for further investigation.
During the handover, the commandant detailed the criminal activities associated with the suspects, which include criminal conspiracy, cybercrime, and obtaining services under false pretenses. Among the items seized during the arrests were mobile phones, motorcycles, keychains, and jewelry.
The NSCDC emphasized its commitment to upholding integrity within its ranks, stating that there will be no tolerance for inducements from suspects or their families. The command also issued a stern warning that any attempt to bribe NSCDC personnel would result in arrest and prosecution in accordance with Nigerian laws and regulations.
