An explosion rocked a service station in Dagestan, Russia, on Friday, resulting in at least 10 fatalities and injuring 11 others, according to the emergency situations ministry. Tragically, among those killed were two children.
The ministry’s initial report indicated five deaths and three injuries without specifying the cause of the blast. They later confirmed that the station’s building was completely destroyed, with significant damage reported in the technical area and cafeteria, which is ablaze over an area of 500 square meters.
Although the fire has been brought under control, it has not yet been fully extinguished. Nearly 120 emergency responders are actively working at the site, located south of Makhachkala, Dagestan’s capital.
This incident follows a similar tragedy in August 2023, when an explosion at another service station in a Makhachkala suburb claimed 37 lives and injured 119 individuals. Such accidents are not uncommon in Russia, where safety violations and outdated facilities frequently lead to disasters.
